Default Speed engineering headers

Good morning! Finally had a break in the weather, decided it's time to buckle down on this install...

I got the car jacked up a decent amount (sitting on a single cinder block with tires still on) but I'm having issues with the passenger side... There's these metal tab/plate that covers the firewall that's pretty bendable, but even with it moved I keep catching his corner... Is it necessary for me to remove the starter to get that extra 2-3 inches in or can I just grind that corner of my firewall away? I'd like for my car to start but I also don't want to end up in my passenger side carpet lol.

Yes remove the starter. It will make the install go much smoother.

Got the starter pulled... Thinking I need more ground clearance causre it's still not going.. I read that it's a possibility to install from the top? Need a beer break and some food so I'll probably get back to it later. Still deciding on whether or not to keep loudmouth resonator or not since it's the ORY pipe. .

Going to get new spark plugs and 02s while I'm at it today. Block is ready for the ls6 intake and pcv conversion too. Without the 02s tuned out (along with egr and air), am I gonna have issues with the car running?

I put mine is without taking the plugs out and sure as hell didnt take starter off. If you dont get car high enough it doesnt matter what you take off, you will never get them in.

I honestly thought the Jack I had would get it up high enough with the Jack stands underneath...

We used a car lift at a dealership. We did remove my starter which takes 45 seconds.... Other than that, they both went in like butter, no hang ups, just straight up and in place.

Proves that all cars are absolutely not the same......

UNFORTUNATELY though.....I got one of the defective drivers side headers from Speed Engineering. It points downward towards the street at the end of the collector. Makes it a bitch for the exhaust guy to attach the pipe to go to the "Y". Looks cheesy and its a little piece of bent pipe that he had to make so it can make the turn to be level again.....then he attached the pipe.
Hope yours isn't like that.....

When I looked at the drivers it didn't look to bad, hoping I don't have to disconnect the steering link when I attempt it today, it was a PITA to get to, I ended up leaving it connected. On a side note, I'm waiting for my denso sensors and need to block off the ports for the evap cannister. Other than that, the ls6 intake is ready to install and get the car going...

I forgot I did have to take my steering linkage out. It was a pain in the *** to reinstall correctly because of the lack of leverage to slide the knuckle back on.

I never took it apart before... Thinking I may need to do some work to the driver side steering, the rubber boot look torn and there's grease everywhere... Never noticed it before so it's something else that needs done

My SE header install went smooth, took the starter out on the passenger side and it slid in like butter, driver side was a little different, I did not pull the steering linkage but ground off that little tab thats on the block then those went in with ease as well

Need to piece the Y pipe together
My dad helped hold it from the bottom while I got the bolts in... Works best to install plugs, headers, then wire s
Need to bolt up steering, bent the metal plate/heat sheild covering the motor mount to get to the bottom bolt
The steering knuckle was a b**** to get unbolted at the bottom, I ended up almost with a stuck wrench and socket pressing against the power steering pump.

So far so slow... Got the 02 sensors in (rear driver plug is sitting on top of transmission....pita). Had to get a new tunnel brace, bmr brace fit perfectly for my y pipe (ORY), I keep reading issues people have with their TSP y pipe, so not sure the difference. Only issue was the 14419 magnaflow muffler didn't fit, was told it would be a direct replacement for SLP LM1 resonator but hey, take everything with a grain of salt... Taking to muffler shop to be fabbed. Will post pics later

So you have Speed Eng headers with TSP Y pipe?

No I don't. I've read in other posts where there was issues with the TSP y pipe which originally I was going to use. I'm not sure what the difference is between the 2 ( better merge for TSP?) but my Speed Engineering fit perfectly with the tunnel brace I'm using.

For my 3" Pacesetter ORY the Magnaflow 14419 was a direct replacement to the old LM1 I had.

Maybe the pipe size changed? Regardless the muffler shop can Fab it up for me since, I plan on using the muffler as recommended, I was hoping I didn't need the extra work done though but it seemed the clamps wouldn't tighten enough to get it to seal. I didn't mean for it to sound as if I was bashing what you said (if it seemed so), I was just saying I should've known it might have needed some extra than just a direct swap. BTW , I have a used LM1 resonator if anyone is interested? Lol

That's cool, I didn't think you were bashing me or anything like that. I'm just glad it still ended up working out for you. Maybe some pipes are bit different. I just know with mine it fit right into the I-section of the ORY where the LM1 used to be. I had it welded in as well.
