Default trying to replace the truck intake with ls1?

I thought i had a cathedral port intake but now I'm not sure? I also thought this was an ls1 or ls7 intake manifold. can anyone tell me, can I use this intake on my 317 heads (cathedral port from a truck LQ4)

first two pics are the intake i would like to use, the third pic is the stock truck intake.

That is an LS1 intake. It will bolt right up to the 317 heads. Are you using truck accessories? If so your throttle body may interfere with the truck water pump. You can buy a spacer kit to be used with a LS1 water pump and the rest truck accessories to solve the clearance issue. I have also read that you can use a newer LS3 style water pump without a spacer kit, but I have never done that.

Any particular reason to replace the truck intake with the LS1 manifold? The truck unit is known to actually flow a bit better than the LS1 if I'm not mistaken.

Actually, I think it was an “f body” water pump I just purchased along with that spacer kit. Looks like it’ll clear now but one issue I see is on the throttle body. It has a little tube on the right side that points back toward the intake. It touches where it looks like the bracket that would hold the cable bracket for the throttle body. I’ll have to figure something out there.

I read that the truck intake works well but I’m doing it purely for cosmetics and the cleaner look up top of the engine. Besides, if I turbo, the intake shouldn’t matter much?

If you want a car-type manifold, you should look into an LS6 intake, or the Dorman copy. They flow much better than the LS1.

I don’t think it will matter much since I’m going to turbo it? Flows not that much of a concern when everything is under pressure? Right now I just have to figure out what to do with this pipe coming out of the throttlebody because it looks like it interferes with the Throttle cable bracket

If I'm not mistaken, I think you can simply rotate that pipe with a pair of pliers. I think I have read about people doing that. Hopefully someone else can chime in on that.

Do you see the terrible excuse for a plug someone made for the port in the top? I'm assuming that was EGR or otherwise emissions related? If it's something I'm not going to use I'll have to figure out a more secure and "pretty" solution to plug it up.

I was wondering if I couldn't just crank that little tube counterclockwise. I'll give it a go. Worst case I have another repair to do. No big deal....I have a plastic weld kit

You can pull the tube out and tap the hole/thread a bolt in them.
I've tapped it and then put a 1/8" NPT adapter in it, and threaded my boost controller straight to it.
That tube is also a very good place to run a line to your wastegate since it only sees positive pressure and very little vacuum (although I would argue that vacuum on the gate isn't a bad thing).

I will have to figure out what all the port were actually for once I start reassembling. I don't recall at the moment. I know there are some things I'll be getting rid of like emissions (since I'm using this as a collector truck more that 50 years old), and some things I'll inevitably want to add like boost reference for gauges/wastegate, location of the MAP sensor, and the differences now that I went from a truck intake to this ls1. I was wondering what that larger port was for that someone already plugged. It looks to be about 1" in diameter and directly on top the intake behind the throttle body.

I think that "terrible excuse for a plug" was actually made by GM to block the EGR hole on that intake manifold, or at least it looks very similar. It looks like someone tried to weld or glue the top portion. This is the part number from GM: 12558346
