Default Intake?

I have been trying to decide what to do with my intake and I dont know whether or not to pop for the near 350 dollars for the k&n kit which seems pretty good....or instead spending less than 200 to get a new lid new filter and smooth bellows....anyone know whether or not it is worth it to pop for the K&N? THanks alot

I think the LS6 intake looks pretty good. I've heard good things about it, so I'll probably go for that.

Louie83, I think its safe to say he was talking about the intake lid, not the intake manifold. And just so ya know, the ls6 intake looks indentical to the ls1 manifold, except for the fact that the ls6 has no EGR provision(unless u get the SLP model which specifically has been modified with it).

WSIX, I have the $350 dollar K&N FIPK. I got it for less then half of that. I like the way it looks, and dyno and track numbers both show that it at least performs as well as any lid out there. I'm not going to say its this wonder-creation that outperforms all the lids by 20 horsepower or anything....I just like it. If you're hyper concerned with engine temps rising(only an issue for some people at lights or idling while still), get a fan switch. The kit definitely looks badass, and you get the benefits of the washable K&N filter. People are always selling stuff on these boards.

Thanks for the info......when you say that it performs as well as any of the lids out there do most lids make the same ammout of power or does the k&n kit make more?.....also you said you got it for half of that price......would you mind telling me wehre you found it?....
Thanks

But with the AIR INTAKE, I would say do the air, lid, and bellows...

I wouldnt spent that much on a K&N. I think they all make around the same power and the lid costs less. I checked around when I was going to upgrade and I ended up just getting a lid and a k&n filter. Ive seen the lids for cheap from the sponsors here. just check some sites out and I bet you could find one for cheap or if you want to save more you could just check the part sale forum, there are always some for sale

Paper filter, a "good enough lid" and skip the
bellows. I'd stay away from the oiled filters.
The bellows are a negligible gainer. A new lid
might leave you with no ripple there anyway
(my bellows are fully compressed, thus smooth,
pretty much, internally). The stock lid is the
major inlet tract restriction, just replace that
and save your mod money for stuff that gives
some performance (or tools, like what you
would need to port your TB with).

Personally, I would go with a lid and a good paper filter, like a Wix or Fram. I'd steer clear of the re-useable filters, especially the K&N since it does not even seal properly to the lid (you have to use some weatherstripping for it to seal). I'd only buy a washable filter if you're going for the looks, and I'd probably only get a Holley powershot. Just get yourself a good lid, like a TSP or direct flow and a good filter. I'd skip on the bellows also, it puts a lot of stress on the tabs of the lid and you have to unbolt the clamp around the throttle body to inspect your air filter. That's just my .02.

Alright so are we in agreement that the bellows is a waste of 50 bucks or is it worth it for a little added hp?....also do paper filters produce more horsepower than the reusable ones like k&n?.......thanks

The bellows can be put into the "every little bit helps" category, or if you're doing it mainly for asthetic purposes. There have been dyno results posted where there is no difference in HP numbers between the re-usable and paper ones. Again, if you have a clear lid and would like to dress up your engine bay a little, then go for it, otherwise I'd stick with a quality paper filter.
