You will get a SES light if you do not install it, or as Andy said out the resistor in. You could just extend the wires and let it hang in the fender well, but it'd be just as easy to cut a hole and install it.
If it's not going to be measuring true inlet air temp
then just use a resistor - last thing you want is for
it to be flapping around in the hot engine bay,
measuring an irrelevant high temp and pulling your
timing back.
If you went to an 85mm Delphi MAF those have the
IAT in-throat, pinned out on the 5-pin connector.
Casper's adaptor harness will hook 'em up or you
might just get a junkyard harness end off a truck
and solder it up clean.
