Default Removing Intake 1st Time...Replace what?

2001 Camaro Z28 LS1 150k miles

I'm removing my intake for the first time to replace the oil pressure sending unit. I also plan on removing the coil packs to change spark plugs and wires. While the intake and coil packs are off is there anything else I should replace or check?

Thanks for the info.

Knock sensors are under intake, and the harness is usually pretty crusty. Make sure you spend some time cleaning the engine before you pull the intake. You won’t believe how dirty it is around the intake ports. Dirt always seems to collect there, and will fall into ports if not very careful.

Brake cleaner works great after you vacuum up all the junk around the ports to clean the intake mating surfaces

no need to remove coil packs to change plugs and wires, but if you do you might as well pull the valve covers and replace the gaskets as they are bad about getting brittle and leaking.

I would replace the knock sensors and harness also, good preventative maintenance and will save you from doing this job again in the future. I recently did an intake swap and decided to only replace the knock sensors and keep the original harness, now I have to do it again as I have a CEL for knock sensor voltage.

knock sensor harness just in case (I tore mine up reinstalling the intake) as it may get pitched during reinstall and throw a CEL light. just be extra careful when reinstalling the intake manifold. also may as well replace the intake gaskets and clean the inside of your intake manifold with some brake cleaner as it most likely is caked from oil build-up from the PCV system.

If this is the first time that the intake has ever been off, I would replace the fuel injector O-rings also.

Thanks for the information. I will begin taking it apart today. so I should replace:
-oil pressure sending unit (reason I’m removing intake)
-knock sensors
-harness for knock sensors?
-intake gaskets
-valve cover gaskets
-fuel injector o-rings
-spark plugs
-spark plug wires

anything else?

As mentioned, it’s a great time to clean the intake out. It will likely have a nice thick gel like coating on the inside.

Oh yes I will definitely clean it, thanks. Does paint stick to the top of the intake? I would like to paint it as well.

Yes, but only if you’re going to use a real one, not some eBay knock off.

Another thing I would do is surround the knock sensor holes on the valley cover surface with a thin bead of rtv sealant. Just a small preventative barrier to water seeping down in there and rusting it up. and when I say thin, I mean thin, not enough to touch the intakes underside.
