Motor rich-pressure regulator
I had just changed the plugs a few days ago and the motor ran great. But I took out four of the plugs anyway and noticed they were wet and gas fouled. I cleaned them all and restarted the motor, but it continued to misfire. I put in a new cam and lifters about 2,000 miles ago and started to wonder. I put on a scanner, and had no codes. That's when I realized the problem was fuel related or mechanical, and started thinking about the cam install.
Before going into panic mode, I decided to check out the pressure regulator. I have a gauge on the fuel rail and it showed 60 lbs, which ruled out the fuel pump. Besides, the motor ran rich and wasn't starving for fuel. I disconnected the fuel line with the battery ground disconnected. A lot of gas spit out like maybe a cup. Usually after disconnecting the line, an ounce or two would come out. I tapped the regulator with a wrench and another ounce or two of gas came out. I let the gas dry and then reconnected the fuel line.
I turned on the key and let the pump spin up to 60 lbs and started the motor. It popped twice ran choppy for a few seconds and then cleared out. I drove it for about 20 miles and its running great. My question is has this happened to other members, or is this a fluke? Any suggestions would be appreciated, and I know, I know, its time to get a new regulator.
