I just can't win...bad alternator after fuel pump install?

There must be something with the hot wire kits. Mine started flickering the lights after a hot wire kit and pump install. Replaced alternator and it stopped. I didn't measure the amps from the old pump to know if the new pump is drawing more amps, but I supposed that is what was causing it. I wouldn’t think that just the hot wire kit what cause this on its own.
