Default Need to Quiet Down My Dual 3"

Hi,

I had a catless dual 3" system with X pipe done up with my local muffler guy, and I chose a pair of Flowmaster Super 10s. It sounds awesome but holy crap is it loud. Not too loud for me, but my neighbourhood disagrees and the local cops will too I'm sure so I'm just looking to knock it down a few DB. I was looking at changing the mufflers out and was considering a Dynomax Ultra Flow or maybe Spintech. Any suggestions? Not interested in Magnaflow, too quiet for my tastes.

Borla XR1, dynomax bullets, 40 flows are popular choices while still quite aggressive. Dynomax ultra flow will be very similar to magnaflow. I dont know much about spintech tho. 40's would be good choice if you want similar tone while still quieting it up a bit.

Here's what the Dynomax Ultra Flos sound like. They are only slightly less loud than 3" race bullets. And those are barely quieter than open headers.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, also looking at Hooker Aerochambers. Had them on previous vehicles and also liked the sound, figured I'd try something different this time around though just to see.

To hear it for myself in person and go from there? Congrats to you though if you get all your mods right first time around.

All good, I've done the same with many vehicles. I enjoy that part of the hobby, trying different things for myself, then changing it up again to get it just right, lol. I'm on my 3rd exhaust set up on a 2018 Silverado 6.2L, haha.

If the duals are dumped at the axle , pull them all the way out to the back.

would love to hear your duals though. I’m considering FM 10 for catless catback

Went from dumped LM1 > TSP catback > dumped XR1. The XR1 is relatively tame until you go WOT then it's miles ahead of what the LM1 was in tone. A lot deeper and refined. When I used to work nights and had the TSP catback i'd come home at 5:30 AM with the cutout open in 2nd gear.

It's so deep. It'll give you a boner riding around in it from all the vibration.

For what it's worth, I'm running long tubes with duals and the flowmaster 40s. It's quite loud still. I'll be going to a straight through muffler here soon. I've heard a couple that idle pretty quiet and sound good when you get on it. My neighbors don't like it very much hence the change.

The best thing I have found is the flowmaster DBX to quiet down the duals. When I first did the kooks, I got complaints. Put the DBX on, and I walked around to each neighbor, knocked on their door with the car running to make sure it was good enough for them, and they all said it was and thanked me. Don't get me wrong, it's still loud, but far better than the way Kooks supplied it. I'm considering putting a spiral in there to break up the long pipe between the X and the muffler and kill the drone. Even if it only knocks 5-7 dB off. If it kills the drone, 5dB quieter will be significant. i'd love to do a resonator, but #FcarClearance

I put cheap spirals in mine to quiet my se x pipe duals. The tip can have alot to do with sound and drone also.
