Default Casting confusion

Totally new here, been lurking for a little while, but I'm very confused in trying to figure out what motor I've pulled and put on a stand and was wondering if someone here could help verify. Pulled a motor with casting 12551358 out of a 2001 suburban. Head casting is a 706. It should? Be a 5.3 if it's the factory block, but the stamps saying 4.8/5.3 kinda threw me off. Is there any way to tell for certain without tearing down the block?

The 4.8 and 5.3 use the same block. The best way to tell what you have is to look at what it came out of. The rpo code or looking up the vin would tell you for sure (assuming it's the original engine). Short of that you'd have to open it up and look at the rotating assembly. I don't recall any other way to distinguish between the two.

If there is a way to pull a plug and scope the inside of a cylinder, the 4.8 uses flat top pistons while the 5.3 uses an 8cc dished piston.
