Mounting newer style coils I'm trying to tidy up the look of the old ignition system. Right now I have the original LS1 coils mounted to the LS3 valve covers, not sure which bracket is being used, but it's missing a few mounting bolts. My old ignition harnesses had seen better days, so I bought the new style harness, but now those wires look out of place, being near the bottom of the LS1 coils. Which style of OEM coil provides the cleanest look and best compatibility with the brackets, valve covers and stock length ignition wires?
I think the coil pack assemblies are plug and play to the engine harness. But the coil sub-harness pinouts can vary depending on what coils are used. You can adapt a different sub-harness to your coil pack by changing pinouts at the main connector to engine harness.
If all you want to do is swap out the entire coil pack assembly, then I think it's plug and play to the engine harness.
It's been many years since I had to look into this for myself, so maybe verify my info before taking action.

I think moving to the LS3 harness and ignition coils will clean things up. And if you move to the Holley valve covers, the mounts are integrated. It really cleans things up.
GM D510C LS3/LSA or the D514A LS2 Ignition Coils have the same spacing. So whichever you can find cheaper.
GM Ignition Coil Wiring Harnesses 12601824 x 2 allows you to plug them into your stock LS1 harness.

I'll have to dig up my RockAuto invoice, pretty sure it was the 12601824's I already bought. I'm not enthused about the Holley valve or fuel rail covers The overall price wasn't as bad as expected.
