I think the stock Fbody maf was good to about 500 hp or maybe slightly more. I'd think the larger 85 would be good for 550-600 hp NA.

You can max out a maf in 2 ways, 1 is lb/min of airflow and the other is frequency. 64lb/min is the max airflow the ECU can handle and like 12kHz. Above that you either need a larger tube for the mad to drop the frequency or scale the time to report less airflow.

are there any 100 mafs that don't use a card and uses the wires like the stock smaller maf? Would be interested in one that doesn't block the airflow as much.....i might get bored and do some measurements to see which maf flows more and by how much.

Ive never seen one. I have seen people put a spacer on the card MAF so it barely sticks into the tube. Still reads airflow but isn't as much of a "restriction".

I don't have a particular thread in mind. It may be something custom or you could stack COTS maf spacers if you google the term you'll see what I'm talking about.

It seems like a 4" induction system is quite a lot even for a 408 that only runs out to 7300 or so, what would be lost by running a 92mm TB and the 85 maf when paired with a 102mm manifold inlet?

I was simply providing an alternative since some thing that the cartridge sticking into the tube is a "restriction" even with the tube being 100mm. As far as your last question, it will depend on cam and peak rpm, but it seems like a bit of a waste to have a 102mm intake and then bottle it down to 85mm at the MAF. Maybe its just me.

I get it, it's kinda like 2" headers with a single 2.5" exhaust. Whether I set it up as a full 4" tube from lid to manifold it's nearly the same price as the 85 92 combo. I dont know where this motor will peak. Cam should be happy to 6800 and hopefully it will carry out to 7300ish. Dont know how much the light valvetrain and short travels will help.

Contacted tsp. 100mm maf isnt recommended for the 98 computers. He advised that the 92mm TB will still flow plenty of air for even a 7500rpm stroker.

Even if I'm down 10hp, big deal. Probably going to be Spraying it anyways and driveability is important to me. Dont want to ride in a bucking bronco and run 10s or 9s.

I guess they don't have experience with it. It works all day with a 98 computer, but whatever. Maybe theirs is "special", but an LS7 in a Spectre 4" tube definitely does.

Not too sure but you got me thinking. Why does a MAF cost so much? 260 for a z06 maf descreened is pretty steep when you could build one for under 100 bucks. Could I just use a factory 85mm maf that gm used in the vette and goat with a pigtail adapter and run the IAT in the lid or MAF if I choose? Delphi units are like 100 bucks and they are gm replacements. Pigtail is like 30 bucks or I can solder myself.

yup, sure could. If you're going to do a full MAF tune anyways, I think all these high $$$ MAF's are overpriced. The other ones that make sense is the ones that have a wider frequency range, but that does you no good if you're ECU can't read the higher frequency to match.

The part number in question is Delphi AF10043. How will I know if I will overwhelm the sensor and render it useless? If I understand, the larger housings trick the Maf into reading a lower frequency?

Its also a plastic housing, so it shouldn't heat soak.

Most MAFs are a hotwire element so a larger housing distributes the airflow across the element less due to a large volume in the pipe so it's not cooled down as much, therefore reading a lower frequency. You'll know by logging when you've exceeding the limits of the 85mm maf.

Which should or shouldn't occur on a 500whp build? Also to note that the 10056 part # is 90mm so ive read.

Should NOT occur at 500whp, especially with an 85mm MAF.

Looks like I'll try that 10056 delphi or maybe the gm z06 (which is twice the price for what exactly?) Pigtail adapter, ftp 98mm lid with iat hole drilled and a 92mm TB. Subject to change but this might be the ticket.
