Default So I got my MSD atomic intake in today...

Hey guys, needed some insight here as to if my situation is what the norm is. I received my msd intake and upon installing the injectors, I noticed they sit really high up in the port. I am concerned about puddling and atomization issues. I'll include pictures below. Tell me what you think.

See the injector sits way up in there. Ls1 injector with ls2 rail and msd supplied rail spacer kit.

For reference here is the ls6 intake injector port.

I touch that area up a bit when i port them. There is usually some flashing from the molding process around the edges where the gasket goes. I smooth that up because it cuts that silicone gasket if you dont.

I see, I didnt want to port out the Injector ports but I may play with the idea just to clean up the very edge of it, like my pic above it looks like there is some loose plastic there. Does anyone have a pic of the fast 102 and does it do the same thing le is it more like the ls6?

why not port it to match the cathedral style of a stock intake.....does not hurt stock intakes and would not shroud the injector at all

hm what do you mean, the injector port on the MSD is a different shape and dimensionally larger then the ls6 intake already, it is just that the pocket the injector sits in brings the injector up like a half inch and I was worried that the injector spray pattern could come into contact with the pocket and cause fuel puddling on the pocket wall.

Unless the spray pattern doesnt come into contact with the pocket and positioning the injector higher up can improve fuel atomization?

From what I have seen, the spray pattern does not flare very much at all, though it still is a spray and not a squirt. So wetting or puddling the intake walls are likely not a concern.

FWIW, the way our controllers work with EOIT based injection timing, unless you are at idle, fuel is sprayed mostly behind a closed intake valve during the exhaust stroke. When your duty cycle is up near 100%, you are spraying during the power stroke.

Ecu calculations are based on the fuel evaporating off the intake valve, which also serves to keep the intake valves cooled.

Long winded way to say that the effect of the injector port and angle is most likely to impact you during transitions.

I also received an email back ftom FIC and they assured me the spray pattern is pretty narrow designed to hit the valve in the correct place and it should never come into contact with those injector wall pockets.

I was fitting up my GTP injectors (LS1 style) with my Fast 102 and noticed pretty much the same thing as your MSD, they seem to sit pretty high up in the injector port.

Here a look at a typical LSX injector spray pattern. Very narrow out of the unit. They are designed to hit the back of the valve with 99.9% of the fuel spray.
