Default Just a quick question.

2002 LS1, planning to do LT headers and y-pipe this month. I’m totally confused about the 02 sensors.

1- which ones will be long enough to plug back in with me new exhaust?

2- I will need to buy extensions. How many will I need? Front or rear sensors need the extensions?

3- extensions vs buying corvette 02 sensors??? Why not just extensions?. And you buy the “rear” Vette sensors and can use them as the front ones on my car?

So, I have no clue what to buy and what to do and no one gives me a straight answer. Can some one explain this to me like I’m a 4 year old. Thanx.

Really my rear O2s are there physically for state inspection only, but the ecu is only reading the front ones. Regardless you will need a tune once you make the modifications. A simple mail order tune will work for this.

Awesome, so after all this head scratching all I need are two extensions. Perfect, thank you very much.

I don't know about Kooks headers, but the others I'm familiar with require extensions for the front O2's. It's best to get the rears tuned out because you don't need them for anything anyway.

I've used extensions but prefer the Corvette rears for the front O2's, especially if your originals are old. A fresh pair can be helpful. They are somewhat too long, but you can zip tie them up to get them out of the way. The key is to not have them too close to the primaries where they will fry and cause all sorts of problems.

and you would run the extension on the rear sensors only, right?

No sir. The rear should not require extensions. Only the front O2 sensors need extensions when placing from a stock exhaust manifold into a header collector.
