Default LS1 to LS3 starter

After being scared to death from seeing pictures of broken blocks from the starter shearing off I finally made the switch to an LS3 starter. Fitment was pretty spot on on my 2000 TA although in looking through old threads I seen someone mention the engine ground being in the way but was a nonissue on my car although I did rotate the wire around for added measure. The LS3 is also a PMGR (Permanent magnet gear reduction 10 tooth count) I have not counted the teeth on the stock starter yet though.

This is pretty much a direct swap. you do need one long starter bolt to replace your stock short bolt. the new starter also takes a pigtail for the small starter wire instead of a ring terminal.

Yes sir, also the heat shield off of 5th gen Camaro will fit with long tube headers. The LS3 starter is lighter as well.

yeah day and night difference between the two, I'm super happy with the results and should have a lot of room for my new 2x3.5 headers

Good mod really, any body with one of these cars should do this in the very first round of mods. I went with the truck starter/ bolt set up just so I could sleep at night..... Your right seen horror stories (in person) from breaking the ear off. An ounce of prevention is worth it here.

Somebody ought to package the starter, bolt, and pigtail as a kit so you don't need to round up those parts. This is such an obvious improvement!
Anyone at Summit, TSP, WS6Store, etc. listening??

Truck starter here as well for the 434. The aluminum blocks are very, very weak in the starter area and the truck starters with equal length bolts add considerable strength to the area.

Connection and weight is what I've taken so far but my plans are to go with the truck starter with the 370. I'm still running on the stock starter from my 01 and it's still going strong turning over the 427.
