Default LS1 Engine bogging down

Hey guys,

Took the TA out Friday and wasn't running right, first time it has ever happened in my ownership. It's a 1999 30th anniversary Trans Am, I have owned the car for 20years now. I changed its oil this May, has been sitting on a trickle charger since, I rotate other cars and just haven't gotten it out yet.

It seemed to shut down/bog down under wide open throttle, ran a little rough at idle and start up. This has never happened before as I mentioned. Curious if anyone has had this issue. I was going to start with the plugs and keep trouble shooting from there. Car has a number of mods, except internals (Longtube Headers, LS6 intake, MAF, Whisper lid, etc.)

What spark plugs have you guys been using, liking, etc?

Open to any input and appreciate the help.

Ryan

Very sweet looking cars! A++

How fresh is the gas in the tank?

I missed adding Stabil last winter to my 02 Z28's gas tank just before storage. In the spring the car ran poorly even cut off a few times the first drive this year. Week of driving sorted out nicely adding fresh gas.

I don't like the crappy E10 gas that's 99% of what's available .

I'd start with replacing the fuel filter first if it's bogging down and low on power. Have you checked for any DTC's.

Bad gas (if not properly treated with Stabil as mentioned above) or low fuel pressure is most likely issue here, assuming you don't have any codes (no MIL/SES was mentioned). I'd put a fuel pressure gauge on it and check pressure under load (unless it's already too low under no load, then you know this is the problem).

I have several limited use vehicles too, my '98 Z28 gets driven least of the group. But my minimum standard of driving is one tank of gas per year, and then I always refill with Stabil and Red Line SI-1 added to prevent any fuel system issues. Do you have a set routine for ensuring that fuel stays reasonably fresh among your collection?

To add to the old gas theory, theres also a difference between summer blend and winter blends in gasoline. That could cause hard starts and rough running conditions.

Money on low fuel pressure. Is it throwing any codes? I wouldn't mess with changing the spark plugs, maf etc. until you get a reading on fuel pressure and codes read. I can't imagine a check engine light isn't lit if its bogging down and struggling.
