Help with LS1 Water Pump part numbers.

I've just received an new water pump I ordered online and the part number is 12681179. I can't find any reference to this number online and assume it's a just a GM part number change. I was expecting part number 12681185.
Does anyone know if they are the same but with a different number or is there an actual difference?

Yes. I can't find any reference to the part number of the one received.

Sometimes 9's & 4's can look similar.

Are you sure it's part number 12681179?

There's a GM part number 12681174 water pump.

Are you sure it's part number 12681179?

There's a GM part number 12681174 water pump.

Positive it's a 9. I have found reference to it on another forum with someone asking similar questions with no replies.

Looks like the water pump casting number which isn't necessarily the part number.

The casting number on a part isn't always the same as the part number based on what's in the link. Example GM part number 12681186 water pump has casting No. 12681180 and the casting number & part number don't match.

What vehicle is the water pump for?

Sorry, I'm not much help with sorting out the question at hand.

Wow, that's really interesting, I just assumed that was the part number so you have been a massive help. The box actually has a GM sticker(which I didn't see earlier) with the correct part number 12681185, so I've got no doubt it's the correct one. My car is a 2002 Holden Monaro. Mostly the same as your 2004 GTO's.
