Default ATI super damper help

Hey guys just wondering if there's a secret or a way I'm not thinking about to remove the damper from the hub while it's bolted to the crank?? I've got balancer 917277 and want to send the damper in to have the proper durometer rubber installed. All bolts are removed except the crank bolt obviously.

I did reach out to ATI tech support and they said it should just "pop off". Well it's not just popping off and I feel like it's got to be forcefully removed but maybe I'm missing something. Anybody got any tips or tricks to get the damper off the hub??

Thanks guys for any and all opinions

Every one I have ever taken off has been super tight. I've never had one just "pop off"

The tolerances are so tight, if the damper even gets cocked just a little bit, it makes it damn near impossible to removed.

I normally take a soft blow mallet and tap the back side of the damper and spin the engine over to walk it off.

You could also take a propane torch and warm up the entire hub. This makes it expand and releases easier.

On a sbc, I used an ATI damper. There were specs for my machinist to hone to for a specific interference fit. Even though it was miniscule, it wasn't a slip fit that would pop off.

Yea the machine shop honed the hub when they assembled the short block. That's not what I'm looking to remove. The hub is going to stay bolted to the crank, I'm trying to remove the actual damper that bolts to that hub

Yea I do recall ATI tech saying use a dead blow but how does a guy get it from the back when it's bolted to the engine?? If I have to pull the entire assembly off the crank I'll just order a new balancer with the right rubber and deal with that one later. But I'll give the propane torch a go first and see if I can make any headway
