Default Quiet Exhaust Setup

Hello Everyone,

I have an HCI 1999 Camaro (5.7/LS1). My exhaust setup is currently TSP 1 7/8 LT to a true dual setup with an X pipe and 2 GMMG/Madhammer Exhaust Bullets. I love the sound however, living in California it is not very drivable lol

Anyone have recommendations for either after market cats or mufflers which could help quiet my car down? Was thinking of putting the cats/mufflers in the back after the axle, since that is where I seemingly have the most space.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I am running a flow master "70" on my Jeep, its huge, but has way less sound volume than other flow master mufflers. Has a nice grumble at idle and doesn't let much sound out till about 3500 rpm.. I am running a 2>1 exhaust and its short....

Will your car have to pass emissions testing in California?

Could try a 14419 Magnaflow in the I-pipe. That or swap to a full Magnaflow setup.

I live in a smog exempt county so not a concern, but the exhuast tickets are unreal and dont want to give them an excuse to hit me with a state ref ticket.

Probably put cats and a stock muffler or something like the hooker or flowmaster. California sucks your going to want it quiet as possible.

The best exhaust setup would be one that's installed and operated in a state other than CA.

Beyond that, you'll want the largest mufflers you can fit with the greatest amount of internal packing material. Another option would be several mufflers/resonators in series (if a large case sized unit can't be fit) within the I/X-pipe area, and/or at the rear if they can be fitted there.

Talking Quite Quiet Exhaust Setup

Hello,
I agree with the above----RPMWS6 ,"Beyond that, you'll want the largest mufflers you can fit with the greatest amount of internal packing material. Another option would be several mufflers/resonators in series (if a large case sized unit can't be fit) within the I/X-pipe area, and/or at the rear if they can be fitted there."

If I understand you correctly, keep the mufflers you have and add two more.
When I replaced my faulty stock convertors, my exhaust became too loud. I had Thorley Tri flow headers, Magnaflow replacement cats, and one Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler. Which is recommended by David Vizard. With the stock cats the sound level was OK, maybe a little loud. But with the new cats it was loud. So I added a second one and it is quiet now. They are a high flowing muffler, the link below shows the internal design. I went from 2.75" pipe to a 3.0" muffler so that should of helped with the flow.
My post about the mufflers are here.

I know the torch welded pieces look rough, I used Stainless Steel rods and a flux but no leaks.
Hope this helps.
