Default header install

Installing my headers today. I finished taking the drivers side manifold out and it wasnt too bad till the last blot . That one bolt took as long as all the other together.

Now i am down to the passengers side and have removed the 1st 2 bolts and the back side bolt. Is there any easy way to remove the middle bolts?

you're the 1st person that I've ever heard complain about the middle bolts. Get yourself a ratcheting wrench (10mm) from sears. They are about $8 and really help alot. Removing the coil packs helps alot too.

i will b getting that wrench tomorrow. I knew there had to be a better way because its virtually impossible with the ratchet i have. The air wrenches works really good once u get the bolts broken loose but u have to get it pretty loose w/ the small compressor i have. I am going to buy a bigger one tomorrow to see if it helps.

Oh , Just wondering. Is running lts, ory, and lm pretty much the same as open headers? I would think. Maybe a 1-2 hp diff?

I have read that the last bolt on the passengers side it aweful to get to. For me it was one of the easiest from under the car it come out really quickly.

Just remove all the bolts on the coil pack (passenger side) except the the back one and tilt the assembly up out of your way. Then just slide your hand down the side...I used a 3/8" drive wratchet and had no problems with the first 3 bolts.

bought a big compressor and and used the air ratchet. It was sooo easy after that. If i had started with those tools i think i could have gotten everything off in 20 mins.

LT headers, ORY, and loudmouth will be crazy loud and RASP RASP RASP but it should sound scary when you go WOT. I suggest you start your car up while open header, maybe even drive it quick. Will take you longer to install (obviously) as you will have to wait for it to cool back down before you can go near the headers, but it sounds so friggin awsome you won't believe it Just in case you havn't thought of that already......... As far as power is concerned, it will flow as well as a straight 3" pipe so there will be basically no restriction. The 10mm ratcheting wrench is a life saver!!!!!

A tip for when you go to install the headers. To hold the gaskets onto the header flange, use some of those tie wraps that come with the plastic trash bags. Put about 2 or 3 on each header so you won't have to worry about lining them up to the header and head holes.

I found it easier to get a couple bolts in the header to hang it......then remove one to slide the gasket in and do the same with the other bolt after re-inserting the first bolt.

Looks like there were two of us putting on some headers last night. I installed the Pacesetters w/ORY. I had the Hooker shorties since I bought the car back in 98. The Pacesetters look really good. The only snag I ran into was I could not get the rear muffler pipe into the y-pipe. It would probably be real easy with a lift so I have to run to a muffler shop at lunch and get them to get it closed up for me. OMG is it loud, sounds like Dale Jarret driving through the neiborhood, I about gave an old g uy a heart-attack when I had to start it up at the bank drive-in. hehe
