Question about speed engineering true dual exhaust
Thanks
Jay
I did that a few times and nothing seems to be hitting but the car was not running when on the lift in the air. So while i see its not hitting anything but installed very solidly with the stock clamps, To All the folks that installed this exact exhaust system with better wider longer clamps or maybe band clamps that have the little dimple to spread the pipes apart a tiny bit, did you all get those improved or better bigger wider longer beefier clamps because your system was pinging or banging or making some sort of noise or was it because you heard someone stripped a bolt and decided to just get different clamps to avoid any issues down the road or during install?
The clamps I used were the 3 inch clamps that came with the whole system. I used my air impact gun to install all the clamps making sure to have the bolts facing away from the ground so they would not catch on anything or dig into speed bumps etc. and I could work them off later if needed and not have destroyed threads to fight to get them off. The bolts took the abuse of my snap on impact gun. While my impact gun is not some new 29999999 foot pounds model like more modern ones, the probably 300-400 ft pounds it does have these bolts took it in stride and never stripped. I also made it a point to anti seize the pipe joints and all the nuts and bolts on the clamps so that down the road nothing would rust together trying to be proactive is all.
Just weird I hear it rattling around especially in reverse
Ill have to keep looking at it to find what is making this noise. Just thought some of you might have had the same issue as me. Also that track bar relocation kit that I got with this system is my guess, because when it goes over the rear axle, the axle is drooping down as far as it will go being stopped by the shocks so when the car is on the ground the suspension is compressed and not sure about others, but that was one HELL of a super tight squeeze fit back there. Wondering if that is what is hitting the pipes and banging around. I figured wrong I guess that if I drove the car a few blocks and had the suspension bounce and recoil, the pipes might get a small tiny dimple and then stop banging and knocking but no, still doing it so I know a lot of these exhaust setup's have been sold because of it being stainless steel, headers fit really well and don't have to do major surgery to get them to slip up into place with the K member, engine and steering in place, just have to slightly grind the K member corner on the drivers side and the metal casting "Cube" on the drivers side that is extra metal from the engine block casting process I guess GM uses that cube to grab the block and move it around at the foundry / factory. So if anyone that has purchased this for their Camaro's or Firebirds, Please let me know if yours made noise and what it was and if you got new clamps to get it to be quiet or whatever else you did to quiet it up.
Thanks all
Jay
***Confirmed thats what its hitting and i read a few posts here and other ls sites that some have put a rubber hose cut longways and cable...zip tied in place to get it to be quieter and not metal on metal.****
Maybe I can try to put some rubber hose over the small spot of the pan hard rod or dimple the exhaust tubes slightly but I can't be the only one on here with this issue. What did you all do to quiet up your true dual exhaust systems?
****I also noticed that the bent panhard rod is making my car not sit level on the ground. Must be putting some more pressure on one side vs the other and lightly cooking the car up higher on one side. I have 5/8ths between top of tire to rear wheelwell bottom. Edge on the passenger side and 1 1/2inches on drivers side so I will have to take this apart and either get some threaded rod and big grade 8 nuts and cut the bar and weld in the nuts to be able to expand or contract the rod length to provide equal pressure on the rear axle to keep the car sitting level. Not sure if anyone else has this issue but if so...what did you do to fix it and get your car to sit level?****
