Default Exhaust Setup

I'm in the process of swapping a 408 into my 98 TA and I currently have TSP true duals and with the LS1 they sound really good, but they are loud and I wanna be respectful to my neighbors. I'm thinking the 408 is gonna make it too loud. Am I right in that assumption? Anyone have input on going from a cammed LS1 to a stroker on overall loudness?

408 Specs for reference
Callies Compstar Crank and Rods
Wiseco -15cc Pistons
PRC 247cc Heads
Cometic 0.040 Gaskets
Custom 235/243 .621/.624 112+4 on LSL Lobes
Fast Intake with PTM Throttle Body

Loudness is the reason I don't run full exhaust all the way back myself....

I run a un-catted 3 in. Y pipe into a 4in. merger with a 4 in. electric cutout. Then after that I run a stock catback to jam it up real good to make it manageable until I get out of the neighborhood with the cutout closed.

Probably won't be all that much different in loudness.

I have no idea what muffler TSP uses, but you might be able to measure it, and buy one that fits the same but is quieter. Walker/Dynomax are usually the mildest sounding ones.

A pair of cats and a pair of bigger muffs will do what you want without much compromise in HP.

You're not going to get anything resembling quiet with those TSP mufflers. I'm stroked and cammed with a TSP catback and it is quite loud. The neighbors have never complained .... but I do try to go easy on the throttle in the hood. LOL. It's that cold crank that I can do nothing about!!

Yeah, it's always been loud. If it doesn't get much louder than it is now. I'll just keep the exhaust since I do love the way it sounds. It doesn't need to be quiet by any means at all. It just can't be significantly louder than it currently is.

I can't imagine it's going to be too much louder than a cammed LS1.

Going to be as much a function of compression as anything. You can always add cats, bullets, change muffs, or some combination until you get what you want. When modding: no way to know for sure until you experiment a bit or get lucky.
