Default Opinions on my custom designed air filter.

Hello, I am finishing up LS swapping my 350Z, and I did not use a kit. Because of this, front end space is very limited. I 3D scanned my engine bay, and designed an intake pipe as well as filter. I cannot fit MAF so I am not using it. My question is, has anyone tried this? And does filter size of the filter matter if it is right next to the TB?

I am running a 92mm TB, the intake piping has an ID of 95mm, and the filter also has an ID of 95mm. I am planning on putting a filter sock or something simple over the filter.

The Filter is 95mm dia 200mm long.

Default Hot

Looks like a hot air intake??
But interesting use of a 3D scanner.
How much engine bay fresh air do you have?
Maybe enough when moving but at slow speeds the intake temperature will be hot unless you have a powerful fan or fans.
But, again, good job on the use of high tech on the modeling.
Sorry if I didn’t answer your question!

Yes it may be more of a hot air intake, but nothing on this build is perfect. I made everything myself except the adapter plate to bolt the CD001 to the LS. I will attach a pic of my setup. I do not know how much cold air is there, but I do have good electric fans. And yes, the 3D modeling is cool as hell, it is an Einstar 3D scanner and Autodesk Fusion to model it.

Default Hood scoop ?

Punch a hole into the hood, make a scoop and a filter surrounding below.

Not a bad idea problem being the 350Z looks terrible with traditional hood scoops.

Just a question?
Since you going without a MAF are you going speed density?

Seems reasonable. I'd be a little concerned about air temps too, but plenty of people pull air from the engine bay so it's not like the car is going to explode.

Any chance you could get it to pull air from below the headlight, next to the radiator? Maybe use smaller tubes and put a filter on each side?

Yeah I guess I could, do some sort of dual intake piping. That should make up for lack of space for one I guess.

Go ahead and design a Ram Air intake. Would be better than sniffing that much of hot air.
