Absolutely. You can't just squeeze the o-ring against a surface that offers no protection against the O-ring being completely flattened. The LS has many "gaskets" like these. The aluminum prevents squeezing the O-ring out of shape. The surfaces "bottom out" against the aluminum rather than the O-ring itself......

Can't you just seal it with some Ultra Black?
