Default Different Intake designs

A few of racers make inlets from sheet metal, aluminium etc to different designs.
How much better are they than the LS1/6 style of intake ??

A friend is building a turbocharged engine form his TR7, and he has made his own inlet from aluminium, with a twin throttle up front.

Im considering this myself. Are there any benefits from such a design ?

I'll also be turbocharging, but not just yet.

Cool.. twinthrottle! this baby will probably take twin carbs too if you want. Multiple carbs look soooo neat!! This can be a big factor for bragging hehe Anyway, i can see loads of options, seems to be easy to play around with different throttles too.

Well, if you have some space inside the plenum, you can change the length of trumpets, and make the chamber smaller and try out lot's of things to suite your LS1 perfectly... You are not stucked with a permanent design...

How about a divided plenum chamber? There will be only four cylinders per chamber instead of eight, so cylinders are more isolated from each other. This reduces the danger of backfire or cross-firing.

Do you have more info about this plenum??

ford truck TB..

I don't like it. That plenum setup with a 90mm TB would be better IMO.

He is using the twin throttle to suit his twin turbo setup with the plumbing arrangement of the pipes. The plenum was originally flat fronted, so virtually any throttle plate could be bolted on. Its big enough to take a 90mm single throttle.

You could even bolt a Carburettor or 2 on top of the lid instead should the need arise.

At the minute the plenum is just open inside. So there are many options. Trumpet design hasnt yet been decided

aha ok, why? When using 1 big throttle it will be more difficult to split the plen in half. This would probably help to keep mixture velocity up, resulting in a better throttle response for a street car right?

pls, correct me if i'm wrong..

well.. first of all, it's not a split plentum. Secondly, many guys running the 90mm on non-boosted cars without a "throttle response" issue. Not to mention the 2005 LS2 motors that come stock with them.

Lastly.. it's not a right or wrong idea. That's why my post said "IMO" Which = In My Opinion.

I know what IMO means.. Well acctually it's made to be split design too.. double or single throttle seems to be up to the user what to choose.. And i like that.. Personally i woulden't buy one of the new plastic inlet stuff that popping up at the market.. And i won't buy a throttle body that's oval either, coz, At higher boost, they didn't seal properly like the new round one i'm using now.

Nasty Performance makes them, here is a link where they posted them for sale in the sponser section, they are made to order, and take about a month.

Those are nice looking intakes, thanks for sharing those nice pictures.I'm building a singleplane for an ironblock stroker for a racecar and a carb.It looks like a Wistoncup intake the runners come up at a 45 degree angle to the plenium to fit a 4 barrel carb or tb.Runners are about 3.75 ssq.in. cross section,it looks awsome on the ls1.
