Header differences. I'm shopping for my headers. I had originally picked out what I wanted to go with but now that I'm not putting cats on the car My options have opened up a bit. but theres such a price difference in some of these headers. I want to know if it's really worth my while.
Is there really much of a difference between a complete pacsetter stup for about 500 bucks (coated) vs. a complete setup from QTP which runs around the 1000 dollar mark??
And if there is much of a difference does the difference warrant an additional 500?
Then there is flowtech and Jethot to consider also?
I just don't wanna put out all the xtra money for like 3-4 HP.

well coated headers are mild steel just that, coated. coating will wear off eventually. when you install them, they'll get scratched somehow. those scratches will make the coating less resistant to rust. the money that is put into headers is not always about hp(although when considering stepped headers and high velocity merge collectors it can make a difference), its more often about quality. kooks and qtp are the best out there. stainless works makes a good set, edlebrock apparently has come out with a decent set as well.
if its your daily driver, and its going to see hellacious weather, then stainless steel headers are worth the extra money, no doubt about it. if bang for the buck is your main concern, pacesetter is your best bet. for what its worth, i'm not even giving it a second thought, i'm putting SS kook's on my car when it comes time.

Look at the Stainless Works. Very well made from 304 stainless. They will outlast your car. Plus the Y pipe is also 304 stainless. They also use some really cool Random Tech Cats that are not much bigger than the Y pipe. The Y pipe is 2.5" instead of 3" which makes if fit so much better. Ground clearance is outstanding. Stainless Works has stated that the 2.5" Y makes more power than the 3" up to 450 hp, then the 3" takes over. I believe them after making 381hp on a 2001 Z28 with these headers, 224 cam, a lid, and a cutout.
The best part, after you add up the cost for headers, cats, and Y pipe, it's not that much more money than the coated headers like Jet Hot.

The premium headers are well worth every cent. The fit is so much better, as are the welds and appearance. If you go for some top of the line stainless headers from the start, you'll never buy another set. If you go with a cheaper set, you may end up buying another set in the future. If you can afford the best headers, buy them. Just my $0.02.
