1 3/4 or 1 7/8 ok roight now im looking into QTP or Kooks LT headers for my stock internal LS1....it will be going ointo the catted Y and GMMG now im wondering whcih is better
in the future i do plan on gettinthe 455 stroker but...what i needa kno is....is it better to have 1 7/8 on a stock LS1 engine?....wouldnt it be better to run 1 3/4 till i get the 455.....run that with the 1 3/4 or buy new 1 7/8 headers then....tel me what you think i shouold do

i too face a similar decision...i think i will just go with the 1 7/8's. i don't think i will lose enough down low to offset what i will lose up top when i up the cubes if i go with the smaller diameter now.

I had the same decision to make last week when ordering QTP's- also explaining to them that I'd like to go stroker in the distant future. After discussing it with them, I went 1 3/4". Point made was that spending another $700-$800 to step up to 1 7/8" in the future is rather insignificant compared to the many thousands needed to go up in displacement. Step up to 1 7/8" when it's time to and go with 1 3/4" now. That's just my 2 cents, but we're all free to do what we want.
I'm running the 1 3/4 now on a stock internal motor, and they work great. I inquired about a similar scenario, and I was told that it depends on how much C.I you plan on going to. I told them 383, 396 max, and they told me that the 1 3/4 would be fine for anything up to the 383 range, but as soon as you go 400 or more, you're gonna need the 1 7/8 If I were you, I'd go for teh 1 7/8 now, and save yourself the $$ later, do it once right and don't waste $$ I'm sure that 1 7/8 is overkillon a stock motor, adn you probably will lose a little on the bottom end, it all depends on what you can tolerate between now and the time you do the motor. Being that your car is an auto car, it may not notice a slight bottom end loss as much as a m6 car would.

well im looking at Grott style headers....i think i will go for QTP 1 3/4...one question now....do headers like loose value after use if they are taken care of...cuz i think i might try to sell mine when i go for the Stroker and right away get 1 7/8

sweet....how much you think you can get on them....especillly if there on over 35-45,000 miles?....mayb get them coated as well...and no scratches scrapes etc

they don't hold their value at all!! but i would be glad to take them off your hands for $100

why is itthey dont hold value?....if they get coated....and since they are stainless steel....and remain in good condition..im not gonna beat on em or scrape them up or anything...so yeah i dont see why especially if they are installed properly...and im not doing anything thatll cause any engine problems....BP Ultimate, Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30....stock internals....the only thing i MIGHT do is a stealth cam...or a cam with a high lift sitting 113-116 LSA
dude stop worryin so much.....weather/road conditions/factors you can't always control will affect how your headers look after 40k miles. stainless headers will hold more of their value then coated, cuz people know that while they may not look great(you can always spend the $$ you saved to get them polished or coated), they're still stainless and still won't rust. i'd LOVE to find a set of used stainless kooks 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 after 20k or 40k miles. headers have to perform...not look pretty. thats just a side bonus.
If you plan on putting 35-40k on them before you do a motor, just get the 1-3/4s now. You will get your moneys worth out of them by then and could sell them for a couple hundred when you are done with them. Providing they are in good shape without any damage they would go for 200-300 untouched. Maybe 300-400 after you clean them up and pollish them. I'm talking just the headers without HV collectors or y-pipe with 35-40k miles on them. Now if you where doing a motor in like 5-15k miles, (depending on your anual miles) I would go to the bigger ones emediately.
