Default Coolant sensor in Driverside head?

What is the sensor that's located at the front of the Driverside head? Is that the coolant sensor? Apparently mine has a short in it. My Temp gauge will drop to zero while driving and the car will attempt to stall/shut off.

Anyone ever replace this sensor? I'm assuming that it'll just un-thread from the head and I'll just splice the new one into the existing wiring?

That's right.

It's an easy swap. Just unplug the connector, unscrew the old one, put a little sealer on the threads of the new one, torque it in (it's easy to twist it too hard and break it... voice of experience here...), plug new connector in.

Don't forget to stick your finger in the hole.

So, what happens if you do break it off? Cause I just did that this morning.  Is it easy to remove the remaining part of the sensor out of the cylinder head?

I tuned on a truck that was having problems with the
ECT jumping all over, but just pulling & reseating the
connector made it all better.

I doubt you broke the brass portion of the sensor, just the plastic connector part. It should be easy to remove. It's a commonly broke part.

I broke the gold piece that sticks into the head. I did it while torquing it down. I actually over torqued it thinking I needed to.

Is that the brass portion you are talking about?

See if an extractor will fit in there. You might have to drill a hole in the remaining piece of the sensor to get it started. Hopefully there isn't any shrapnel in there.

Use a smaller ratchet when you install the new sensor

Well, I finally did replace my coolant sensor, but my engine temp gauge is still sitting at 0.

WTF?? Anybody have any clues what else I should check?

From what I can see they look fine. But, it has to be some kind of grouding issue because my water temp gauge continues to go from 0 to the correct temperature when I'm driving.

Trace the wires back through the harness and you'll find that one of the wires is broken, or very loose in the connector.
