Default So Cutouts after Collectors are bad... well what about this?

I searched through the forums going back as far as I could and it seems that having the cutouts right after the LT collectors (I mean like RIGHT after, no pipe in between), is bad. I guess the air can come back in a burn up the valves and O2 sensors. So it seems like I need at least 12" of pipe before I put in the cutouts, but I need to fit cats too, which is a problem to say the least.

Anyways, would it be safe/equivalent if I put like 12" of pipe on the cutout itself? That way, the open air would be about 14-16" from the O2 sensor. I see no problem with this, but maybe it won't work for some reason. They will be electric so they won't be open all the time, but certainly more than just at the track.

Thanks a lot!

if you're gonna run it open all the time, but if you close it there's gonna be a lot of extra turbulance, i would think? even with cats, i don't think you'll pass emissions in cali with lts? at least that's what i always read when i was out there........

edit: ah, they're electric.....so you could weld the pipe after the actualy cutout.....

Don't worry about me passing emmisions, let's focus on the problem at hand...

If I want performance, I will open them, so I can care less how much power I lose when they are closed.

I think it would work. If it were me Id probably just use a 4" cutout in the ipipe. I dunno, Im trying to dream up the perfect exhaust.

Yes, if you put a "tail" after the cutout then that will
reduce the reversion of fresh air (but I don't know the
maximum reversion distance). Also if they leak then the
"tail" will be full of fairly-fresh air when closed and the
leak will be near the O2s. So far mine has shown no sign
of any significant leakage but it is way, way back so a
don't-care.

Make the "tails" have a turn-down while you're at it, you
will like the reduction in floorpan "boom" with no loss of
bystander effect.

I had 18/20" (each side) and had issues...i think it depends on your turbulence. And of course there is only ONE way to find otu for sure...

lol, I believe he was just referring to the information in CA laws that say something about if you have cats or ODBII compliant cats. If you have no cats it doesn't matter anyway, but technically speaking 9xxxxx series carsound cats are not legal in CA.

yeah, i used to live out there so i know all about that........i was just referring to comments like
Don't worry about me passing emmisions, let's focus on the problem at hand...
and
To pass smog... haha, to complicated to explain, don't worry about it.
i was just trying to figure out what he was doing because he sure as hell won't pass a sniffer with his mods or a visual with the lts......but if he's got something else up his sleeve, thats his business.....
btw, you might burn up o2s, but i don't think you need to worry about the valves.....
