--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One other advantage of the SSRA that is often overlooked is that it isolates the air being fed into the motor. Feeding it cooler air from outside of the engine compartment. I did some data logging of the IATs with the SSRA as compared to the free ram air. And the results were staggering. 90° day IATs in the burn box and staged of 135-140° with the FRA. Same 90° ambient temps with the SSRA netted 90-95° IAT readings. Makes a huge difference in what the computer uses for timing tables.

Yes, ducted cold air is better than FRA. Also the duct
material is important, plastic insulates better than the
stainless SLP CAI for example.

This looks suspiciously like an infomercial to me however.

Very true, I like mine.
This last summer when it was 100* a lot, my IAT's were never above 90's.
For reference, engine temp was 180's.

EDIT: Just noticed this thread was started by the same guy that makes them...I guess Al found a loophole in the notasponsor rules.

I was just tooting my horn a little bit. I always believed this was the case but it was nice to have someone who I've never met post this about their SSRA with proof to back it up.
If anybody wants to buy an SSRA check out the sponsors here------------->

Curious if they also took coolant temp readings between having a RA system that blocks the radiator (ie: SSRA, FTRA, SLP CAI) versus not having it blocked (ie: FRA).
I only race in cooler/cold temps so even with only the supposed 'radiator heated' FRA air coming in I still get pretty cold air hitting the filter with no blocking of the radiator.

Radiator shrouding is one of the two reasons I hacked
my SLP CAI down to a stub and made my own ducting.
The other being the poor IAT effect (hotter than the
SS hood alone).

I addressed this problem by using 1 inch screws now instead of the 5/8 inch.
SouthFL.02.SS, you're the only one that I've heard that's ever had it come off on a launch. You . What was the 60 ft. time on that one?

The screws on the bottom are worthless- even at 1". The key is to fasten the top to the bottom for structural integrity. The 60' was horrible on that launch -it was the wheel hop that proved deadly for the SSRA bottom half at that moment.

NOTE: You have a fine product. Why do you think I went through the trouble of fixing it and putting it back on the car? It's good for a consistent 1 mph improvement.

Screws in thin plastic under vibe = come apart. I'd go
with bolts/Nylocks and fender washers (and black paint)
if you want solid.

I agree. I had that crap on my car and did nothing for me. Actually in AZ, it would pickup the Hot Asphalt air and make my car run like crap. I'm going to get a ram air hood "Ultra Z" for the car.... PLus I will be taking weight off the car.

I for my first time ever to the track, with my only mods being SSRA, SLP lid, and K&N air filter, on stock tires(245's) and i trapped a best speed of 13.464@107.27 and a best time of 13.454@106.79, with 2.211 60's and a 6 spd manual, first time ever to the track and a 90 degree day out. I would have to say it is a great product, and Al is a great guy, I highly suggest this product too

Edit: btw my car is a 2000 Z28 with stock everything else, even street tires(as you can tell by the 60')

I had an 02 Firehawk with a K&N filter, Direct Hits ignition, Granitelli maf, sfc's, lca's, phb, 4:10, and nitto's. The best I could get at the Memphis Motorsports Park was 12.82 @113 mph. I got the SSRA and went back and ran a 12.76 @ 115 mph. It really helps the get up and go from a 30 punch on the street too. Excellant product!!!
Andy
p.s. I am selling the Direct Hits ignition system for $120 shipped if anyone is interested. I sold the Hawk and this is all I have left from the car.

i noticed with the ssra that the colder it is outside the more noticeable it is, i know i can feel a difference from driving around in 90* weather and tonight in 48* weather, mine is an auto and it usually chirps second but tonight it felt like a hit a shot of nitrous at 30 and it layed some hella rubber

that has nothing to do with a cold air kit though. you have to test it in 100% equal conditions to find out if it helps. the cold air in the atmosphere will make anything run better.

I've had my SSRA for about a year. I will tell you this: When it's cold out, this thing makes a HUGE diff. I went out and tested (with my **** gague) it. Did a few sprints on the express way and at the lights with the SSRA, then used a plastic shield to block it off and pulled out the gasket to open up the stock airway.

It's simple. More air, at a lower temp, with less twists and turns before it goes into the motor = more power.

u guys are getting better results than GM High Tech Performance then ... i pulled the book out and these are the results

60' 1/4 mph
before 1.78 12.56 106.90
1.77 12.56 106.82

after 1.76 12.54 107.08
1.84 12.62 107.25

no et reduction at all but hey, a .18mph gain on 1st runs and .43mph on 2nd runs

also they said the seal had no affect on performance

Most magazines are full of ****.
BTW: My opinion on a product depends wholly on what Hot Rod TV says about it!
