True Duals Without X or H pipe
True Duals Without X or H pipe Is that a bad idea? Im thinking about getting the edelbrock long tubes and running true duals with a pair of 3.5" ultraflo mufflers. Would this be too loud for a daily driver? Will it sound good without any crossover?
i don't think it will sound near as good...i think they tried doing that with the new viper with the side pipes...but ended up connecting them with a pipe (h-pipe)...this supposivly solved the problem..

I've heard TD's on a LT1 with Flowmaster 40 series mufflers w/o an x or h pipe. Loud as can be, but sounded like crap. People made fun of him. And he had about three inches of ground clearance, his went under the axle and out the back. He was lowered.
Yeah I listend some clips at ls1sounds.com. Xpipes sound way smoother with a better tone.
The only reason Id consider duals without xpipe is that it would be easier to do myself. Ive had bad luck with muffler shops. They never seem to do anything quite right.

I don't think it will sound that bad at all with a straight through muffler like the ultraflow. It'll basically have that open header sound, but without the volume. That's my experience anyways...
I have done all three but not all with the same mufflers.

I did 3.5 oval dual with Flowmaster one chamber shootout mufflers and it sounded like a pro stock car. Way too loud.
I currently run X, ATR pit bulls, and it has a nice mid rangy sound at WOT...

Ultraflo welded mufflers. They make 3.5" bullet mufflers that are 5" diameter. The utraflos are 4.5" tall. Would it be loud if you keep the engine below 1700rpms? Do xpipes really quiet the car much?

Its funny, I actually have TD's with no crossover right now. I have been meaning to make an X for 2 weeks but have been too busy. With the 18" Dynomax Bullets it sounds WICKED at WOT. Drones really bad at around 1900 rpms. But in general sounds fine. I am just going to play with a few bends and put the X in with a different routing. Its really cool when you have a Hydraulic Bender and tons of pipe to play with! HA HA. Be even better if I was worth a **** with the angles..... I can weld and fab Trusses for a custom roof and bridge, but cant bend a ******* pipe. What a jackass.
