2002 exhaust manifold question

2002 exhaust manifold question Can anyone tell me the purpose of the large lug on the side of the passenger side manifold is?
I am building a streetrod and want to remove this lug, but I don't want to do something I'll regret.

If you're talking about the blind boss on the side,
I think that's where the 2000s had the EGR bung
but '01-'02 do not have it tapped. It does appear
to be cast hollow so I wouldn't go too nuts with
the grinder.
There are also several threaded bosses which are
for heat shield mounting.
