Pullies cherping like birds!
Pullies cherping like birds! So far, i think the pattern for this happening is every 1 1/2 years - as ive had the car for 3 1/2 years and this has happened twice now. My pullies are squeaking like hell and its REALLY anoying. Does anyone have a trick or advice on how to stop this without replacing the stupid things? Ive tried wd40 and spray on white lithium grease and it just comes back the next morning. Last time i said screw it and just let a dealership replace them with the warrenty, but now i dont have a warrenty, and thats not an option. Thanks for any advice...please help!

CHIRPING like a bird? OR Is the belt causing the noise. My Impala does this after awhile and a change of the belt solves the problem. It is usually caused aby the belt getting a shiney spot in it and it squeals as it goes past the pulley. Try a bar of soap on the serpentine belt. Touch the bar to the belt as it rotates (grooved side), and see if the noise dissapates.
Yeah, now that i think of it, the squeak pattern was too long to have been a pully. From the sound of it, a pully would have at least 3-4 rotations by the time the pattern started over. im gonna try the soap. Thanks for the advise.

I replaced both belts and one idler pulley. It still squeeked.
dURING HTE LAST FEW MONTHS, HOWEVER, IT stopped squeeking. I don;t know why. A neighbor had the same issue and he replaced all the pulleys - no help, for him however.
If mine starts up again i will try the soap trick. Should i use Ivory, Irish Spring, or Dial Deoderant soap?

This is a common problem. Replacing the main serpentine belt usually helps for a while. That's what my dealer did.
Then I found out about this :
GM had a technical service bulletin, TSB# 00-06-01-008 about the squeaking/chirping noise, caused by a slight belt-misalignment between the alternator and other pullies. Calls for changing the alt. bracket to GM# 12563327 and replacing the idler pulley with # 12563326.
I think the TSB was for '98-01 years, not sure though.
