I just got my edelbrock stepped headers and was wondering if its worh ceramic coating them. i was also thinking about spraing them with vht high temp silver paint. it says it will hold up to 1500 degrees. how should i take off the black paint thats on their?

Any feed back is welcome!! thanx!!

I'd say its definitely worth it if you want them to last much longer and not be covered in rust after 1 year.

You should have them sandblasted, or else just take some sandpaper to them to rough up the surface so that the VHT paint ahderes better. I just bought coated Pacesetter's and used the VHT flameproof clear coat (1200 degrees). I just cleaned the suface with alcohol and than sprayed 2 coats over the coating just to give some added protection. Winter is coming

PS- I have also heard barbeque paint (you can get this at home depot-its cheaper than VHT) holds up even better than the VHT, I didn't use it though b/c I wanted clear so you could still see the nice finish of the headers ( they look like jet-hots).

I highly recommend the ceramic coating.. My painted headers looked like *** after I first started the car.

If you do paint them, have them sandblasted. After the sandblasting use POR 15 or POR 20 high temp paint to coat them.

Speed Inc. charges 279.99 for inside/outside coating of LS1 longtube headers. I'm not sure how much it cost for the jet hot coating.

You definitely want to have everything welded before you get them coated.

Good Luck..

Does anyone else think it's a little ridiculous what these places for coating??

boomer, you will get a little gain, but more importantly they will last a lot longer (not to mention look a lot better than rusted manifolds)

I have no idea what you are talking about...they are coming out after SEMA and the sponsors, i.e. SDPC, should have them 2-3 weeks later

I am definitely going to wait and see how the new 'bolt on' edelbrocks are. I hope they retain the high velocity merge, but just pre-weld it on and add the O2 bungs.

Most definitely.... I am going to wait and see what they look like and then make my decision between these and the Pacesetters with the TSP offroad y.

the edelbrocks are the way to go...they are cheaper and so much better than pacesetter, especially if you add more power down the road...i am just waiting to see the price vs. the painted ones...if it is too much i will have jet hot or speed inc. coat mine inside and out...the pacesetters are only coated on the outside

Well according to the post from the guy at Edelbrock.... the Ti-teck (or whatever its called) is cheaper than ceramic coating by a good amount. So I would guess that it would be an additional $50- $100 for the Ti coating. Hopefully they won't jack the price for welding on the collectors and O2 bungs.
