billet grill and airlfow
"nostrils" and feed the "nose space" because that's
where my cobbled up CAI now draws from. I don't
really know what a Z/28's airbox sees, for air. If you
can seal it off from the engine heat and make it draw
from the nose area then improving the temperature
there might eliminate some IAT based spark retard
for you. Possibly better than the "FRA" in terms of
inlet air temp. My scheme certainly is a lot better in
that respect than the SLP CAI, as-delivered, produced.
But, if that isn't where the air comes from then it would
only be an appearance mod.
Here are some pictures that show what you get into back there...
There is the foam, but there is also a big support beam behind the foam.
I trimmed both of them.
I also removed the fascia material behind the grill.
And I put a block-off plate underneath, so the air didn't blow out below, before going through the radiator. (no picture of that though)
And the plastic in front of the radiator has to go too...

Edit -- added --
I did mine primarily for cooling this time around.
Before that, I had opened up the styrofoam, and trimmed that gray fiber/plastic bracket that supports the top of the fascia, to get more air to the filter. Just by opening up behind those slotted areas in the stock grille.
