Default LG Headers for C5 ZO6--Worth the cost?

Hi,

I obtained an '04 ZO6 and was considering headers. I know of the tremendous performance LG obtained on the drag strip and was considering their headers.

I saw their price was $1,495. Wow.

http://www.lgmotorsports.com/shop/pr...a9dbfeb9d5a920

Others such as SLP are approx $800 plus another $100 for the install kit.

Is there really a significant degree of extra performance and is the difference worth the added cost. The $600 would go a long way towards a lot of other mods.

Regards
Steve

Significant power gains across the curve are noticed. My buddies shop here in Tempe has installed and dynoed a few lately including a c5 and a c5 z06 that I watched. The Z06 made incredible mid and upper power.

Hi Todd,

Thanks much for your reply. I was really wondering whether there was any significant bang for the many extra bucks needed to purchase the LG headers vs others on the market. Were the results you saw w/the LG headers and were they that much better than others on the market?

It just seemed the price for them was somewhat out of line. Maybe I'm missing something regarding the LG setup.

Regards
Steve

LG's C5 headers make more TQ than any other C5 header on the market. If you want max TQ out of your setup, get the LG's

Hi Damian,

Well I guess the bang for the many extra bucks analogy comes in again. Is the additional Tq number really worth the cost? The $600 difference or thereabouts could go toward other goodies.

Steve, shoot me a PM...and Ill get you more exact prices, dyno numbers, and a few other things you may be interested in. Both QTP and LG make a very nice high end product that produces great results. It really depends on personal preference.

The fastest NA C5 is running the LGs.

The top 3 quickest C5s in Speed World Challenge were running the LGs

Why Skimp? Come on Steve, You and I have talked on the phone before with the coil overs, you know my thoughts. Do it once, do it right.

SLP makes crap components. Those aren't even longtubes are they?

Besides, they are $800, sure, plus required install kit and required H downpipe. Add cats if you want them. Then you need their H-pipe if you really want a true full setup like the LGs (the LGs are everything from the headers to the rear exhaust flanges, complete with nice X pipe). Now you're talking $1750 for SLP crap! Are you crazy?

So anyway, back on topic, I have TPIS longtubes on my C5 (quite old, long before LG made headers), and if I had to do it again I'd go with LG or Kooks. They are both in the same price ballpark (~1500).

Crap, even my cheap mild steel TPIS headers would cost you pretty much the same overall. They're like $700 plus $600 for the random tech catted X pipe, that's $1300.

They are the Rolls Royce of header/exhaust combos. 32' primaries, merge collectors, full 3' x-pipe and 3' pipes all the way to your bullets/stingers.

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks!! You're the first to point out the diff between the LG and SLP or other Long Tube headers: the LG setup comprises the entire exhaust system to the muffler!!! I missed that when comparing components. They should make it clearer. Totally missed it.

BTW, the SLP headers are long tubes.

It looks like you also get the rest of the plumbing with the LGs. Check out the Jan'2005 edition of Corvette Fever....482HP, N/A and using LGs.

I paid $1400 for a set of headers, y-pipe and cats.....
