Default Eliminate EGR and AIR?

I am doing an ls6 intake swap right now.. and i plan on making a small steel plate to block it off on my passenger side header.. but i was wondering if it is worth blocking off the check air valves or not? What would be the gains or benefits from it? I have heard of people blocking them off and drilling small holes in them? I don't really get the whole concept.. What else would i need to remove if i blocked the check air valves off? The vacuum line? Or is there more? Any help is greatly appreciated.. working on the install right now.. trying to make some decisions! thanks

It saves weight and makes for a cleaner engine bay. I dont beleve there is any power benifit. But it does take alot or the cluter away.

www.ls1camaro.net has a write up on how to go about removing everything. I'm too lazy right now to find the direct link, but it's over there.

There's no real benefit to removing the AIR pump other than taking a little bit of weight out (not a whole lot, less than 10lbs), but the biggest reason to do it is to clean up the engine bay... makes for changing the spark plugs a little easier.

I blocked both of those off... and made a aluminum plate to go over the intake and tapped a small hole for the screw to hold it to the intake along with RTV sealer. my headers are race headers, not even provisions for the EGR or AIR

Take the EGR off of cammed cars, do not take off AIR at all. Unless you are not running catalytic converters. If you are running cats, they will last longer with the AIR system, and you will have better emmissions at startup. If you have a non-cammed car, leave EGR because it cools the cylinders and allows more spart advance at low throttle. On cammed cars you already have exhaust reversion diluting the mixture, so EGR just hurts and needs to be removed.

Depends, are you using the cats to quiet the exhaust or are you using them for emissions.

No block off plates on the headers would be an exhaust leak. No block off plate on the intake manifold can cause unwanted/dirty air to enter and unwanted air to escape.

I just cut the tubes off of the origianl flanges for the egr stuff. Then I TIG welded a short tapered head stainless bolt in the holes were the tubes entered. I bought a plate for the intake, but they are just a plate with a bolt hole in them that you seal with silicone. Should of just made one

use an adjustable freezeplug for the intake manifold. looks like to washers connected together with a bolt and a big piece of rubber between them. turn the bolt, expand the rubber, and it seals in intake manifold.
