Default Corvette exhaust manifolds

I just read an article in Car Craft regarding LS1 headers. They seemed to conclude that the Corvette exhaust manifolds that came with the crate LS1 were nearly as good as headers.

Has anyone been able to fit a set of Corvette manifolds on an F-body??

(yes, I searched!, and please no posts about why not just use headers)

Thanks!

They might be nearly as good as shorty headers maybe but they are NOT in the same league as a good long tube or a Mac mid...not sure what they're trying to pull there.
The Corvette manifolds (there were two different styles since '97 btw) will not fit on/in an F-body without major alterations and would only show a slight power gain (if any at all) over stock 2000+ F-body LS1 manifolds even if they did fit IMO.

When you say major alterations do you mean to the y-pipe or the car?

Maybe the article is way off but they were showing an average tq # on these manifolds at 369 with HP 301. They tested 1 5/8- 1 7/8 long tubes for an f-body and got the best average of 373 tq and 303 hp on the 1 7/8. the peak #'s were also very close.

The gains seem on par with headers. They tested using TTS Headers.

Just thinking that if the corvette manifolds are almost as good they may be worth a try. They have to be a lot cheaper than good headers (QTP,Kooks).

I have a set of 98 Covette manifolds you are welcome to try......free. I have to reduce my inventory of good used parts anyway. I have these on my hot rod, they work perfectly in my application.

i wouldn't believe the article....if that were true, everybody would have known about it along time ago. there would have been a big deal about it when you spend $500+ and only get like 5h.p

Basically both, but I really meant the car. Shock towers, K member etc. I think.

Why waste it? 01-02 f-body exhaust manifolds flow just as good as shorty headers...and fit no problem. I'd just put those on if you want to go cheap with it.

Actually the 2000s should be included in there as well, they too are just as good/the same as the 2001/2002 versions, it's just that the 2000s had the EGR provision while the newer ones didn't. Flow wise they should be the same though.

I read the same article. It said that the GMPP LS1 crate motor made 402 peak horsepower @5700 rpm straight out of the box. I thought a stock LS1 was 350 hp at best Something appears screwy with their tests. Horsepower gains with LT headers have been proven on this board.
Just my 02.

The Corvette exh manifolds that come w/LS-1 crate motor cannot be used in a '98-'02 F-body without major modifications. Stock '01-'02 F-body c.i. exhaust manifolds--even used w/OR pipes (w/out cats) STILL do not make the horsepower a good set of longtube headers make..... WJ
