Default Dumb questuion Header install

Ok here it goes. I was wondering how anyof you installed your long tubes under the car? I had a set installed them and took them off, however I dropped the motor for it. Whats the best way to install with out dropping the engine? Supermaxx headers is whats going back in. Thanks

Yeah, you're right...that is a pretty dumb question. I can't believe you even asked...

Okay, okay, I'm just kidding, and believe me, I didn't know once upon a time either. At least you had the guts to ask...

Those particular long tubes should slide right in. The passenger side will be the easiest, the driver's side may be a little tricky depending on the design. At worst, you'll have to take off your oil filter and disconnect the steering shaft.

I didn't have to do that with my Kook's headers...the driver's side I had to turn 90 degrees (collector pointing towards the ground), push it up, then rotate it into place. I didn't have to remove the oil filter or steering shaft, but it took a little bit of patience to get it in there.

Does that help any?

Steve

My LTs slid right in from underneath. The passenger side was pretty easy (except for having to get the car WAY up in the air), and for the drivers side I had to cut off the casting tab but thats it.

Can LTs be installed with just a regular jack and jack stands, that is what it sounds like but wondered if that was what you all did.

Thanks Steve, The passanger side is what discouraged me from doing it. It looks like a tight fit to get the primarys through. But if thats the easiest side. And I don't have to drop the motor again i'm happy thanks Derek

I personally don't think you'll have a problem with those...if you are doing it without a lift, you'll need to get the front up in the air about 40" or so (you might have to stack some 4x4s, so be careful). It can be done though...many have.

The trick is to get the car way up off the ground. My headers went in fine after I got enough elevation. >32 inches under the front valance was needed. The headers go in 90 degrees off of normal. This took bricks, blocks, ramps, floor jacks and my neighbors cat to get the chassis high enough!

Yeah, it's not too difficult if you get the car up high enough.

I got away with lifting the car 24" only. The passenger side went right in. The driver side was a little more of a bitch. I had to cut of a little metal square that sticks off of the block and take of oil filter.

I installed SuperMaxx headers on my '02 Z28. Both sides slid right in from the bottom. The only thing I had to remove was the oil filter.

Installed a set of SuperMaxx on my buddies car a few months ago. The car has to be high just like has already been said....and just have everything for an oil change handy incase you do have to take the oil filter off (we had to remove it on his car). Otherwise, its a pretty easy install.
