Stainless Works Headers on '01-2 F bods?
Anyone running Stainless Works headers on a '01-2 Fbody? Care to comment on fitment, performance, quality, price? Y-pipe? OR Pipe? Thanks. WJ.
I must have got a bad batch or my car is made weird. Everybody that I've talked to on this board and read post about these things had nothing but good to say. I bought a set with the 2 1/2" collectors and catted Y. First off, the drivers side header is rubbing on the heat shield protecting the braided line for the clutch, I can fix that. Secondly, the drivers side header is hitting the floorboard on slight acceleration. Lastly, the Y didn't match up to the stock mounting bracket, no where near it. Also, the Y didn't match up to the Magnaflow's I pipe, it just swallowed it with a huge gap. I had to take it to a muffler shop and cut a few inches off the Y and expand it to fit tighter in the I pipe. It's almost as though the Y wasn't made with the cats in mind. Other than that, the quality of the headers are awesome. Very well made and put together. Here's a link to a post I put up awhile back with pics if you want see them.

I recall them saying they had to adjust that heat shield for me too. I actually saw Al Noe from Stainless Works at his shop the very next day after your post and told him about the post on here with the pic from you. He introduced me to the guy who did it! Anyway, sorry to hear they are not fitting well.

Very nice headers. I like the clearance of the 2.5" Y pipe and the Random Tech CATS are first rate. I had some clunking on the passenger side, just had to bend my heat shield a little. I also struggled with the Y pipe quite a bit. Had to cut about an inch off the drivers side Y pipe and about an inch off the stock I pipe. Finally I got everything to line up. Stock hanger works fine, you just have to turn it around. Only trouble I've had is a continual P1133 code, insufficient O2 switching on the drivers side. Of course, this is not just a problem with Stainless Works headers, a lot of headers have this problem.
I too chased O2 issues with these headers, finally bought Bosch from sparkplugs.com and no more problems. If it comes up again I'll be buying the rear vette O2's. No autograph for me by the welder!
