Default Running with an open Y-pipe?

I've read the running with open headers can ruin your o2 sensors. What about runnng with and open Y-pipe? Could I do any damage to my motor?

The car will run pretty crappy cause the O2's will be sucking air on decel. I imagine that it could hurt the sensor after awhile. When I run open headers I clamp 16" long pipes to the collectors so the O2 sensors have about 19" of pipe behind them. You could run a open Y-pipe no problem but I image it would flex and move around more with the cat back unhooked.

What if I welded a 18" bullet at the end?

Why not just buy a cheap cutout and weld that in. Then leave it open. You can close it when/if you get annoyed.

I ran an open y-pipe for about two weeks. I had only LT's and cats and flowmaster collector. I kinda liked the sound actually. It sounded a lot like a mustang, a little raspy, and loud, but I really liked it.

At the end of the collectors or y-pipe? If you wanted to put them right on the collectors it would be really hard to fit the drivers side. If you take a piece of 3" pipe and butt it up the collector you'll see what I'm talking about. The pipe has to go on a downward angle and you'd probrably have to flaten the floor and Bullet alittle for everything to clear. Not sure if the bullets would like all that heat either but it would be worth a try.

Reviving this thread from the dead. What are the risks of running headers w/just a y-pipe on the end? Its either this or running SS Kooks on stock exhaust right now, w/Kooks ORY. Which is the better option in everyone's opinion? TIA!

Well, its either going to be SS Kooks headers into their ORY, bolted to the stock exhaust, or just the Kooks/Ory. No stock manifolds involved

I doubt anything will get hurt, besides your brain from all the fumes.
