Default Question regarding A/C dryer.

Are these still functional once the pipes connecting to it have been removed leaving the ports open to the atmosphere?

I dont know the answer to you question but i pluged up my lines with plastic caps when I took mine out no problems here. Hardware store should have differant sizes Like the ones you use to plug hydraulic lines.

I've heard once the drier is messed with and exposed, its best to replace it. Never messed with it myself so I can't say for sure. Let us know what you find out.

No. The reciever/dryer is no longer good after it has been exposed to the atmosphere. Basically, the rule is if it hasn't been exposed for over 2 or 3 minutes, it can be reused. But generally, only a half assed mechanic would go this route during any A/C maintenance. I have seen people plug it off while working on cars, but it sounds like you've already exposed it. Replace it...

Most any shop will always replace the accumulator or reciever/dryer whenever servicing the system. The reason for it its because of the bag of dessicant inside the reciever/dryer. It absorbs trace amounts of moisture, once it's exposed, obviously it will absorb too much moisture and yeild the part useless.
