I know this isn't what you are looking for, but......do you realize that even Mac mid-length headers are illegal? Only carb approved shorties are technically legal anywhere in the US because mid-long tubes move the cats from their factory location.

How far do you plan to mod? What kind of power? If you do much at all you will probably want the whole cat-back, but for relatively low power applications the stock piping shouldn't be too restrictive.........

The muffler alone should be enough, and it will look more 'stealthy' (ie: stock tips) as well.

$289 for the catback.. you can install it yourself..

Now, how much will it cost for you to get the muffler and have a shop weld the rear section for you.

Obviously, if it's going to cost more than just buying the catback and installing it yourself. The answer would be very clear..

But just getting the muffler alone would be fine if it was cost effective.

Hey Venom:

I'm also considering this for stealth, and am thinking of the Dynomax muffler. Can I sawz-all and band clamp it or must it be welded to the stock pipes? And if it must, I guess it better be SS, can't weld aluminized steel to stainless??? Or can ya.

How much would a shop charge to saw the stock one out and weld the new one in?
$100? would still be a deal. The Dynomax is about $85 at Thunder, $115 for the SS version.

Thanks

Mike

Yes,you can weld aluminized steel.ITS just steel tubing with aluminum coating. It burns off once you start to weld it,just like zinc coated steel. You can use steel wire with flux core ,or solid steel wire with some argon. If you go stainless you just have to use stainless wire on your spool.

I,m probably gonna buy the cat back if the stock pipe will be restrictive down the line. This is my first mod beside a lid.As I get used to the power from the current exhaust mods I'll have to add more.

As I get used to the power from the current exhaust mods I'll have to add more.Yeah, me too.

I currently have a used lid, an ASP pulley, and next:

getting the Dynomax.Putting it on my stock cat-back.

Then, I'll take a shot at porting/ruining my stock throttle body.

I'll keep you guys posted on the 1/4 times.
