Metallic "Ting" with very cold starts....?

Metallic "Ting" with very cold starts....? Just wondering if any of you guys with LT headers experience this? The past two times I have started the car in the cold (damn cold) the car has had a metallic "ting, ting, ting, ting" coming from the exhaust port area of the header. After warm up the ting goes away. The car is a '99 M6 that has been tuned with the EGR cut off but the EGR tubes are still in place on the header. I cant tell if the noise is coming fom the exhaust port itself of from the EGR valve. Like I said above it goes away after the car is warm...Any thoughts? Anything to worry about?

mine does that same metallic ping on every cold start up. I thought that maybe it was a loose ignition wire but I ruled this out after getting the same noise when puting in a different set of wires. Mine is only audible on the driver's side of the motor. So I'm guessing it could be piston slap coming from #1. It really doesn't bother me since it quickly goes away after a few minutes.

It most definitely is piston slap. Gm has issues several TSB's on the subject. It covers most gm motors , but the LS1/2 seem to get the most attention. Gm says that this is normal for up to 90 seconds after cold start up, untill the thermo reaction allows the pistons/rings to expand fully in the bore.

I just did not expect it to be such a metallic sound. Only does it if it is below 40 degrees or so and goes away after startup. Was not audible before the headers. I am not convinced that I do not have something loose in my EGR connection, I will check that. If not a little piston slap does not bother me.
