Default anyone gone from true duals to a good Y-pipe setup?

did you sacrifice/gain power? any dyno results?

i have 2.5" duals but they tend to scrape on the speed bumps where i live when i have a passenger in the car. I've also been wanting to lower the car but that is NOT going to happen with the duals, i wont clear the speed bumps here (damn things are like mountains where i live).

if i will be giving up too much HP/TQ then ill stay with the duals, so id like to hear from people who have dynoed back-to-back, thanks!

I've gone from 3" duals X to a QTP dual elect. cutuot Y-pipe + SLP 20TL catback. I really enjoyed the improvement in the sound quality. Performance gains/losses will be posted once the car's running again. Keep an eye on the dyno section.

It won't be an apples to apples comparo, as I swapped to QTP HVM LT's and a FAST 90/90 intake also, but I drove the car around with ls6 intake for one day and was very pleased with the Seat Of The Pants performance of the Y-pipe/ catback combo when running with the cutouts closed.

I think Lane gained 24 rwhp/TQ by going to 2.5" true duals over his y-pipe set-up. In the mid range, not peak. Saw that posted not to long back. I think you'll loose a fair amount where it counts.

^ I think a well done Y-pipe like the QTP which has a 4" Flowmaster Merge Scavenge Collector can flow very well. I'm pretty sure I did not lose 24 rwhp when I drove the car after the swap from X to Y with the same intake. TD's have their advantage over a Y, no doubt.

i switched from bullet mufflers dumped at teh axle, 3 inch system to a 3 inch ypipe with ahooker catback...i lost next to nothing on the dyno. and that was with the shitty pacesetter y pipe ( but i did put the flowmaster collector on it). i just got tired of the noise inside the car.

Well, I went the other way...I had a Kooks catted-y into a Hooker and replaced it with a custom, over the axle duals setup (3" into the x, 2.5" over the axle and out the back through Magnaflow bullets). My car is bolt ons only, and I went from 333/348 before to 340/356 after. Air/fuel was 13.1 before with a sharp drop at the end to 12.5. Gains in the midrange were around 10-11 RWTQ in places.

That's what i was thinking also. I know there is definitely a decent gain to be had going from a regular 3" Y-pipe to TD's, but teh difference between 2.5" TD's and a good Y-pipe setup such as the QTP can't be THAT much. I'm not only talking about peak power, but area under the curve also.

A good set of high flow cats like magnaflow will help the midrange along with that nice Y pipe

Exactly how would cats help in the midrange. Backpressure?
Cats don't "help" at all. They hinder overall performance. "Help" in this case means sacrficing peak hp and tq. Cats and backpressure only make your weaker overall tq peak (made weaker due to cats) available lower in the rev range, thus it feels like they're "helping."
