Default Changing plugs wires

First time changing plugs in a camaro, its a 2000SS. I've noticed that it can be done on the drivers side pretty much OK, but on the top of engine passenger side its a mess of AC aluminum lines and an AC canister, with what looks like a heater line in the way as well. I looked from under the car, and while I can get to the back plug there, the other 3 have to be done from the top.

Question is, do I have to remove an AC and heater line to get to the first 3 passenger side plugs? IT looks like I can unlatch the AC canister and move it without disconnecting the lines, but I hate to depressureize the whole darn AC system to move the other line in the way.....but I see no other way to get to the plugs!!

Help!!

it helps if you remove the coil packs on the passenger side.

Dittos. #8 must be done from under the car. I got it done w/o removing the passenger side coil rail - couldn't get the back nut off. A wobbly spark plug socket really helps.

I did it from the top by swinging the coil packs up and using a swivel extension on the ratchet.

Either lay across the motor, or from the bottom. Headers make this much more easy!

Agreed. Only thing I did different was completely remove the coil packs, made things ALOT easier, especially for #8. You can get them all from the top.It only took me around an hour my first time so it's not as bad as it looks.
good luck !

This is exactly what I do.

I guess you can do #8 from the bottom on the '00 and up manifolds, but with my '98 I can't get #8 from the bottom to save my life. I just pull the AIR tube off and lay on top of the motor while I slide my arm down by the dipstick tube and then back to the plug. I used a swivel extenstion with some tape wrapped around it so it would hold an adjustment better, 5/8" spark plug socket for a little extra lenght and the smallest 3/8" drive ratchet I could find.

It's a pain, but it works. #8 takes me longer than all other 7 plugs combind.

wow I must be lucky, because I did not have to remove anything... I just used a swivel ratchet and took my time...

I changed my plugs in an hour and half, half of which was spent on #6 and #8.

On a '98 just remove the first couple or so coil packs on the passenger side and you should be able to find a way to reach back to #8. It took me awhile but it worked. The best times to change plugs are when you are in there for a header or cam swap though. Not having the AIR or EGR helps as well. Use it as an excuse to remove AIR/EGR.
