Default FIPK- I was just thinking...

I was just thinking that I might help my intake system by creating some "breathing" holes underneath my FIPK..maybe put in a splash shroud just below it (in front of the radiator) to keep water away...what do ya think....

Might work, but water (as you noted) will be the main concern.

yeah..Ive always thought that I might get more air into the intake this way..might eveh have to build some sort of baffel.thoeretically I could mak it wide at the bottom and narrow it down might even ge a bit of a ram air effect.....

that should work. What I did for more airflow was port the holes in my SS hood to double their original size.

It should work. I have never agreed with K&N building that abomination. I'm sure all it does is suck in underhood air.

true. but only when at a stop light. As soon as the car starts moving IAT sensor starts sensing the rapid drop in temperature and makes the necessary adjustments. Bypassing the throttle body coolant lines helps too.

It works great with the WS6 hood/Ultra Z hood as well if memory serves.

I guess it would work, however your ram air would not be functional since you can't seal it off.

It works even w/o the ram air hood. And when I do get the US Exotics WS9 hood, I'll keep the FIPK. Looks cool and isn't losing any power to a lid. Like its been said, the only time its an issue is at a stop light, which is a good reason for a fan switch. Once its moving you're good to go(which is the only time hp counts )

The only thing I can think that it might do is whistle through the holes that you drill as the intake sucks in air. It might not, but it's just a thought.

I cut out a large opening , quarter inch smaller then the shape of the filter itself, then rounded off the edges and painted. I haven't had any issues with water, even in the Hawaiin torential (sp?) rains and flash flooding of local roads. It seems to get a lot more air from under, the bottom of the filter gets dirty quicker then the top and IATs dropped a little bit while at a stop. At cruise only maybe 1 or 2*s, but thats still better than none.
