Default water temp gauge WTF threadsare these!

I have a hole in the drivers side head with a temp sender in it for the computer. I need to put an autometer water temp gauge in and I can't find any place with a 1/2 inch or 3/8 pipe thread for the gauge. The drivers side head looks like it's tapped 3/8 but the passenger head has this weird plug with a weird thread. Any ideas? I have an electric water pump, could I pick u the water temp from one of the holes where the heater fittings are supposed to go? I have no heater. I guess I could drill and tap the passenger headn but I'd rather not.

Thanks

If you do a search on this, you will find exactly what size adapter you need. I don't recall the size, but I know you can get it from Autobarn.

The connection I used was on the pass. side head. You will probably need to remove the starter to get up in there and loosen the bolt (it's an allen head). It's a bitch to do if you don't have a lift.

There's a weird allen head plug going straight up into the block right behind the starter, is that it?

I believe so. I think that there is one straight up from the starter, and one off to the side. Make sure you have a drip can when you pull the plug. You will drain quite a bit of coolant. I'd wear some goggles.

For this location, above the starter in the block, you will need an M16x1.5 adapter, avaliable at Summit, Jegs, or E-gauges. And yes get a LARGE can to catch the coolant and get out of the way when it comes out. I got a mouthful of that stuff and it wasn't pleasant

I did the finger trick. Just have the new sensor installed in the adapter with the rtv already on the threads. Pull your finger and stick the new one in quickly. Nothin' like pluggin' holes.
