A good quality stainless steel band clamp is also great and a lot cheaper. They are meant for slip fit connection, NOT for butting two pipes together. Every band clamp I have ever used has big warnings on it to not use them to butt pipes together.
A quality band clamp will also form aka 'stretch' to the pipes. I always line mine in copper rtv and never had a problem with a band clamp leaking. I just put them on with a impact until it stops and it's good to go.

Yes I have used my impact gun on it. I have 4 of them. A 3/8 drive with 75 lb/ft, and three 1/2" drives ranging from 240 lb/ft to 625 lb/ft. There is no making the clamp close up around the smaller pipe (the header in my case) with the clap going over a much larger flare.

Thats a big clamp though, I wonder if you would lose any clearance?

Basically I think band clamps generally only work well when you're sealing very snug fitting slip fit pipes together. If you're dealing with a slip fit where one pipe is able to move easily around inside the other, a band clamp is usually going to leak.

I use these on my exhaust and they seem fine. I have all slip fit junctions.

I use my impact wrench to get them on/off but I actually whip out the torque wrench to give them 75 -80 ft/lbs. I actually can tighten it considerably more by hand but the impact help get everything up and tight enough real quick.
One thing that conserns me is that some of my slip fit junctions are not as snug ans I would like. How do you know if it is leaking? By feel or sound? I may use the RTV like someone suggested just to make sure.
