Default Car wont cool down

Just finished my cam swap. Everything is working smooth except for the fact that the car wont cool down.

It is full of coolant and everything. It will get up to 230-240 and then I get scared and shut it off.

Anything special I have to do to get the cooling system to work again after it has been drained?

did you make sure that all the air is out of the cooling system. leaving the cap off while running it and filling as needed. i had to do that for ten minutes or so until mine stopped drinking.

Yeah the fans kick on and everything.
tried taking the cap off...probably started it 3 or 4 times, took the cap of etc....would still get to 230-240 and I shut it down.

So just keep on trying this?

When I did my cam swap my car would have overheated bad but I was paying close attention. The temp gauge did not read anything. The way I could tell that I had an air bubble was that the heater would not warm up. Here's what I did. Disconnected the hose that goes to the throttle body at the radiator. Then applied a small amount of air pressure to the radiator until antifreeze cam out of the hose. Hooked it back up and it started working.

For me the adding a little while the engine was running did not work. It would not purge itself.

sounds like air in th system to me too. with the cap off above 180 can you see the water moving, after the stat is open you should see it churning, if not then there is a bubble.

Sometimes the air can be a real bitch to get out of the cooling system and plays games with the temp sensor which can only detect temperature of liquid (submersible) not air temperature. That's why you'll see the gauge jump around a lot.
