I bought my 01 SS and the flowmaster was already on there, and I like the way it sounds. im getting ready to take off the cats so hopefully that will help a little with the sound and flow. But I think it sounds great when you get down on it, and it doesnt really drown out the inside of the car when you are just cruisin down the road. I had a 02 SS with the SS muffler on it, and it would drown the inside of the car a little bit, but hey who likes talking on the phone when driving anyways, haha.

Removing the cats on a Y-pipe set-up will make your Flowmaster muffler sound VERY raspy in the mid rpms FYI. Definitely sounds a LOT better with the cats in there IMO...

But I do like the "deep" toned rumble it emits on acceleration (especially on an LT1)...Although it's personally too quiet at idle & WOT for me...

Try and hear it in person before you purchase it...You may LOVE it and won't look back or may prefer the unmuffled/unrefined sound of the SLP Loudmouth instead...Or the distinct rumble of the Borla (love/hate system BTW).

Within a week of picking up my new 02 SS, I ordered a 40 series muffler from Jegs. We all know these cars come with a pretty high quality stainless steel exhaust system and good looking tips, so I decided to keep all the stock pieces in place and just put in a new muffler. It fit perfectly, was easy and cheap to install and sounds truly killer. The Flowmaster muffler cost about $70 and my muffler shop welded it in place for about $50 more. My exhaust system looks perfectly stock, cost only $120, and couldn't sound better. Whenever I start it up, the sound coming out of my garage is awesome (I know this because my neighbors have said that it sounds like some exotic sports car). I couldn't be more satisfied.

yeah the 80 series will sound like *** without cats.. i think im going to go with a 40 series this time.. i have the 80 and i like the WOT at around 4k.. sounds mean.. but idle and stuff its quiet.. and since im going to be putting an LT4 hot cam in.. i really want to hear the lope in this monster.

Get an H pipe with single chamber flow's. Sounds like an old school muscle car. Not many people have that setup but it sounds sick

im running 40 series delta flows with an H pipe. it sounds bad *** with the 406 and solid lifter cam, but i like that raspy muscle sound. im switching to an x pipe here soon though.

I've been told my Flowmaster has an LT1'ish sound to it, its deeper than most of the aftermarket systems, but loudness and flow is left to be desired. I can't hear it over my stereo so I usually leave the cut-out uncapped.

I just ran 2.5 true duals with a off-road x and 1 chamber flows and turn downs, sounds AWESOME!!!. The car has a hollow sound like a Mustang. I love it, its loud! No rasp at all! BEST SOUNDING LS1 i've ever herd.

. I havent had it 3 weeks, and cant tell you how many compliments i get, especially from fellow f-body guys. I gotta admit though, at 1500rpm, and on a cold startup, you cant hear yourself think, so its not for everyone.

i have a flowmaster muffler and the rectangle tips out behind my shop, they got the boot for the TSP duals. i'd make you a great deal on them, but i'm too much of a packrat
